Allergy

Evaluation and management of environmental and seasonal allergies as part of integrated ENT care.

Overview

Allergies often overlap with nasal and sinus symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and postnasal drip. Connecting allergy evaluation with ENT care helps identify triggers and guide treatment for ongoing nasal symptoms.

The Allergy division at Norelle Health in New York City evaluates allergic rhinitis, environmental and seasonal allergies, chronic rhinitis, postnasal drip, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and sneezing, including patients who are unsure whether their symptoms come from allergy, sinus disease, reflux, or infection. Because allergic inflammation can affect the nose, sinuses, throat, ears, and sleep, allergy care is integrated with the practice's ear, nose, and throat services. Some patients have year-round symptoms from dust, mold, or animal dander, some have negative testing and actually have nonallergic rhinitis, and some have chronic sinus disease that is worsened by allergy but not caused by it alone. Allergy testing is most useful when interpreted together with the patient's history, and treatment is individualized — it may include allergen avoidance, nasal sprays, antihistamines, and immunotherapy. When allergies overlap with chronic sinusitis or nasal obstruction, evaluation connects with the Rhinology and Skull Base division so that both inflammation and anatomy are addressed.
