Ree’s Sinus Surgery Story
Like many other people she had an injury as a child and wrote it off as something that will heal itself. After years of an untreated broken nose her septum became deviated and hindered he ability to breathe on one side of her nose greatly. Full video transcript below:
Reeham: My name is Ree, I’m 30 years old, and I’m from New York, New York.
Interviewer: What were your symptoms prior to surgery?
Reeham: I had trouble breathing on one side of my nose, and especially when I was sleeping, I had to sleep on one side. And also pictures because I broke my nose as a kid and I couldn’t take pictures on one side of my face.
Interviewer: Who was your doctor and what surgery did you have?
Reeham: I saw Dr. Garrett Bennett, and he is an ENT doctor that specializes in sinus and nasal surgery. I had the sinus and nasal septum surgery, I had turbinate reduction, and he broke my nose again to align my septum. There was no scarring on the outside of my nose. And it was a very easy surgery, which I was happy about because I’ve never had surgery before.
Interviewer: Why did you choose Dr. Bennett?
Reeham: I chose Dr. Bennett because just seeing how much he would take his time, answering all my questions and concerns, especially being that this is surgery that I’ve never gone through before. I’ve never had surgery prior to this. He made sure to make me feel as calm and prepared as possible before going into the surgery, which was important. I needed to make sure I could trust him. This is your face, so you want to make sure it’s a one-and-done deal, and he provided that for me.
Interviewer: How is life after your surgery?
Reeham: I can breathe better, I can do my exercises better, sleep better. The energy that you get in the morning from being able to breathe so much is just unbelievable. I didn’t know I could even breathe that much before. And when I came in for my first post-op, he said, “Take a deep breath,” and I was like, “Am I supposed to breathe this much?” And he said, “Yup, it’s completely normal”. And it’s really life changing and my pictures look so much better. I don’t have to worry about which side of my face to pose for.
